Deep Cleaning Checklist For Your Home
A deep cleaning checklist provides a framework that better focuses house cleaning efforts. With its help, you can perform a deep house clean effectively and efficiently. Note that deep cleaning checklists don’t necessarily need to be lengthy, hyper-detailed, or exhausting – all that matters is efficiency and the right approach.
Hence, the team at First Response would like you to know exactly what should be on your deep cleaning checklist.
1. Kitchen Cleaning
Start with the kitchen appliances. Empty out the freezer and refrigerator, wash out the interior with warm soapy water, and dry it out. Clean up grease and any remnants of food off the oven, stovetop and range hood and wipe down the exteriors. Smaller appliances like microwave ovens and toasters can be wiped down with damp cloths. Running the dishwasher on empty with vinegar will make it much easier to clean afterwards.
Next is cleaning the cabinets, drawers, and countertops. Wiping them down with a cloth and soapy water is usually enough, tougher spots can be handled with a degreaser. Any items removed from the cabinets and drawers, like utensils and cutlery, should be washed, dried and put back.
Cleaning the sink should follow right after. A sponge and cleaning solution should be able to clean the sink in short order.
The floor should be swept or vacuumed and mopped to complete the process and remove the kitchen from the deep cleaning checklist.
2. Bathroom Cleaning
The porcelain surfaces should be cleaned first. The sink and tub/shower place can be scrubbed down with soap and water while the toilet bowl should be cleaned with a specialised cleaning solution. Include the various knobs and handles that come along with the porcelain items.
Clean the metal and glass surfaces next. The faucets and mirrors can be easily handled with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
Bathroom cabinets and drawers should follow next. Remove any items they contain, wipe down the interiors and exteriors with a damp cloth, and return the items.
Finish the bathroom by cleaning the tile grout. Use a grout cleaner and a scrub brush to wash the grout lines out. Then you can wipe the tiles down with a damp cloth. After sweeping or vacuuming and mopping up the floor, you can check the bathroom off your deep cleaning checklist.
3. Bedroom Cleaning
The furniture and other surfaces should be dusted and cleaned to begin cleaning the bedroom. Clear off any dust on the nightstands, desks, shelves and dressers with a microfiber cloth. Mirrors should be cleaned with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
Next, you should flip and rotate the mattress. Using it in one position for too long causes the mattress to lose its shape and sag.
Finally, you sweep or vacuum the floor to finish cleaning the bedroom. Take time to clean up the space under the bed as you do so. After you have cleared up the debris, dirt and dust, you can take the bedroom off the deep cleaning checklist.
4. Living and Dining Areas
You should start with dusting the furniture and other surfaces when cleaning the living and dining rooms. A microfiber cloth works best to clean up all dust and dirt on the furniture and various surfaces. Take care when cleaning electronics like TVs to not damage them during the process. Cushions, pillows and other soft furnishings should be vacuumed instead to take out the dust.
Next, you should clean up the cabinets, drawers and shelves around. Take out the books, cutlery, dishes and other items first, wipe down the areas, and then put them back. Any mirrors or glass surfaces should also be cleaned with a glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
Finally, you should sweep or vacuum the floors. Ensure you clean under the furniture as well.
Types of Deep Cleaning Techniques
A deep cleaning checklist is not much use if you don’t know how to effectively deep house clean. Hence, here are some common techniques used in house cleaning.
- Scrubbing involves the use of soap and water with a sponge or a scrub brush to clean up hard surfaces like tubs and sinks.
- Dusting is the process of cleaning debris and dusting off surfaces like furniture, electronics and decor with a duster or a cloth.
- Vacuuming is the use of a vacuum cleaner to remove dust, debris and dirt from soft furnishings and floor surfaces like carpets and upholstery.
- Mopping involves using a cleaning solution with a mop to clean hard floor surfaces like hardwood and tile floors.
- Steam cleaning is the use of a steam machine to clean soft surfaces like upholstery and carpets.
- Pressure washing involves the application of water on surfaces at very high speeds to forcibly remove grime, dirt and debris from outside surfaces like sidewalks and decks.
